Steven Duffy was taught to play bagpipes from the age of 10, and joined Her Majesty's Scots Guards at the age of 16.

Posted to the 2nd Battalion Pipes & Drums in 1982, while serving with the Reconnaissance Platoon he was critically wounded at the Battle for Tumbledown Mountain, the last battle of the Falkland Island conflict. Subsequently Mentioned-in-Dispatches for distinguished service, he returned to duty, attending the Army School of Piping, Edinburgh Castle where he achieved the Army Pipe Majors Certificate (bandmaster) in 1984 and taking a piobreachd prize at the London Piping Society contest.

He was a member of the 2nd Battalion Pipes & Drums that won the Grade II European Pipe Band Championships, took 2nd place World Pipe Band Champions securing a return to Grade I competition in 1986. During his extensive career Steven has played at many of the most prestigious State and military occasions including the Her Majesty the Queen's Birthday Parade, Beating Retreat on Horse Guards Parade, State Banquets, Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Royal Tournament.

Appointed Pipe Major of the Scots Guards Association (BB&O) in June 2003 he led the band to English Grade II and III mini band Champions in 2004. During his time as Pipe Major he has taken part in numerous Royal ceremonies including Buckingham Palace Garden Parties, Gala Evenings and organized band tours all over the world.

Steve performs regularly with Her Majesty's Guards Division Regimental Bands. With an accredited Army teaching qualification Steven has taught at the Dragon Preparatory School Oxford and regularly relief teaches at Radley College, Abingdon.

Steve has enjoyed an extensive commercial career, regularly appearing on TV and radio, backing Rod Stewart, Vanessa May, playing at Sylvester Stalone's wedding and appearing in The James Bond movie "The World is not enough".

He is Piper to the Duke of Marlbourgh and house Piper at Madame Tussauds and Warwick castle. Steve has adjudicated at Royal Scottish Pipe Band solo piping contests and at the RSPBA London Branch quartet competition in 2006.
